Banana yarn! This fiber is created from the bark of banana trees. It is very similar to a viscose fiber with a nice shine to it. Like other Darn Good Yarns, it is handspun with a thick and thin quality. Like the recycled silk yarns, great for accessories and/or adding texture to knit/crochet items.
100 grams per skein with about 30 yards.
The gauge on our yummy banana fiber yarns is 2-2.5 stitches to the inch on size US 9 (5.5mm) needles, or you could use a size US 10.5 - K (6.5mm) crochet hook!
Darn Good Yarn focuses on sustainability by reclaiming fiber waste from the clothing industry abandoned in Nepal and India. DGY works with people in Nepal and India who otherwise live on less than $2 a day. The people DGY works with are not only supporting themselves, but their families as well. DGY strives to employ women as it has been shown they emphatically invest in their children's education, nutrition, and housing.
