May E-News 2021

Dear awesome stitchers,

May is almost upon us and with it some hope for reconnecting in person. Rik and Art get their 2nd shots this week so in a few weeks we'll be ready to begin Appointment shopping (May 12)!

We've scheduled the Walton Street Park Picnic Shelter at 570 Oakland Road (around the corner from our house) for an in-person Stitch group Social on Wednesday, May 26, 10am-noon. People will need to be very respectful of one another's boundaries, expectations, and vaccination status. There's a shelter (in case of rain) and it's outdoors. It's also in walking distance of the Mini-Purl shop in our basement if some folks want to walk over, do some appointment shopping, etc. More details to come!

Meanwhile please keep ordering from our online store as your fiber needs arise and we are happy to ship or have things ready for Local Pickup off our porch. We are very grateful for your continued support.

For our Sale of the Weeks in May, we have some sweet cotton blends for you as we move into warmer weather.

Week 1 (May 3-9): Noro Geshi
A DK weight viscose/cotton/silk/wool blend with 656 yards! Geshi means summer solstice in Japanese. Colors are inspired by the season when the daylight is the longest each year and everything looks brightest. More monochromatic than most Noros. Check out on Ravelry here.

Week 2 (May 10-16): Berroco Remix
We love this yarn! A great alternative to wool. Made from 100% recycled fibers, this machine washable, worsted weight yarn “is an exciting transeasonal blend that is comfortable in every way.”  216 yards to 100 grams

Week 3 (May 17-23): HiKoo Cobasi
This is the only wool-free fingering weight yarn worthy of the name "sock yarn"! Too often, summer hand-knit socks make you choose between hot feet and slouchy cotton. But CoBaSi to the rescue! It's a cotton, viscose (from bamboo) and silk blend with elastic nylon for a true wool-like stretch. If you are knitting socks, you'll need two skeins per pair. 220 yards per 50 grams.

Week 4 (May 24-30): Berroco Remix Light
This is the lighter weight version of Berroco Remix. Also wool-free and made of 100% recycled fibers! 432 yards to 100 grams.

Our Stitch-a-Long for May will be Casapinka's "Noncho" (an "unponcho"/capelet) that she designed in honor of National Bubble Tea Day.  Find collection of kits here or dig in your stash. Pattern available on Ravelry here. (With purchase of a Noncho kit this week you can get special code to redeem for free patern through Sunday May 2). Some optional patterns for crocheters found here. Call to discuss yarn options.

Though we will have an optional in-person gathering (outside) on Wednesday, May 26, we are continuing to hold our stitch groups virtually for the time being. Please feel free to join us for any of our three weekly virtual stitch groups: Mondays, 10-12; Wednesdays, 10-12; and Thursdays, 6-8pm. Find all the Zoom link details here.

REMINDER: Our store continues to be CLOSED to in person shopping. Online shopping only with shipping and local pickup options available.

APPOINTMENT SHOPPING begins Wednesday, May 12. Call or email if you are interested. Details on scheduling and protocols to be posted soon on our website. Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, whether fully vaccinated or not, please stay safe and tend to one another with love and good humor!
